Introducing Pump Portraits

Over the past 17 years, I've been lucky enough to see dancers start their journey at Pump as eager, energetic youngsters and leave as confident and accomplished performers. Our dancers develop skill, confidence and friendships during their time at Pump and we want to offer a unique way for families to capture and celebrate these moments.

Pump Portraits has you covered for a stunning wall print, a striking profile pic or a much loved gift for the grandparents. We create beautiful images of Pump dancers, doing what they love in the studios they call home. We work with each dancer to direct them through a fun photoshoot experience, to capture portrait and dance poses that reflect their unique personality and style.

Pump Portraits was dreamed up over the breakfast table by myself and my photographer husband, Nick George. I'll be working with dancers to bring out their personality and showcase their ability, while leaving Nick to the technical stuff. Let's make some magic!

What should I wear for the shoot?
The most important thing is that you look and feel comfortable. We suggest bringing three outfits and we can help you choose which one(s) to wear when you arrive at the shoot. Have a think about whether you want a hip hop, jazz or contemporary look for the dance photos. That could affect whether you wear jazz shoes, sneakers or go barefoot. If there are any colours that make your eyes pop or your skin glow, that would look great. In our experience, plain black or white clothing works really well on camera. You may also like to have the option of some photos in a dance costume and some in everyday clothing.

How should I do my hair?
For short hair, you can really do anything. For long hair, any style tied up off the face is best, so we can capture your best angle! You may wish to start the shoot with your hair tied up and let it out near the end for some messy hair shots. If you are not confident with doing hair-ups, never fear, we are here! If you would like help with your hair and/or makeup, we can spend 30 minutes before the shoot to get you looking your best, for an added fee of $50.

How should I do my makeup?
Simple stage makeup is the best option for these shoots. This means foundation, bronzer/blusher, golden/brown eyeshadow and black mascara. For the lipstick, one or two shades darker than your lips always looks great on camera. If doing makeup is not your thing, don't stress, we've got your back! If you would like help with your hair and/or makeup, we can spend 30 minutes before the shoot to get you looking your best, for an added fee of $50.

What do I need to prepare?
We ask dancers to think about their favourite moves, stretches and poses before the shoot. If you come prepared with three ideas for each of those, you'll be right on track for a productive shoot. We will have a list of ideas to try as well, but it's helpful to know where your confidence lies. You can also bring screenshot references of any ideas you want to try.

Can I buy more images?
Within the timeframe booked for each shoot, we know that we can achieve a certain amount of awesome shots. If you want more photos, we can consider extending the shoot time at an extra cost. Get in touch with us and we'll have a chat about it.

How does payment work?
We will send you an invoice for your photo shoot. You are welcome to pay in person at Pump Dance Studios (using cash or eftpos) or you can pay online (using internet banking). All prices include GST.
Bookings require a non-refundable 25% booking fee. The remaining payment needs to be paid in full, before the photos are processed and delivered.

Where does the photo shoot take place?
Photo shoots take place at Pump Dance Studios with Libby George directing and Nick George photographing.

When can I book my shoot?
Shoot times are generally limited to the advertised school holiday sessions, but feel free to ask about a weekend shoot, if there’s a particular date you would like.

How will I receive my photos?
Your digital files will be emailed to you with a Dropbox link within 4 weeks of the shoot day.

Will my photos be printed and framed?
Printing and the framing is up to you! Images will print in high quality up to A1 size and we recommend talking to the good people at Wellington Photographic Supplies (Archival Galerie Paper) for high quality printing. We provide the digital files only. We do not provide prints or frames.
